The Greenwood Initiative was named in honor of a community in Tulsa, Oklahoma that was known as “The Black Wallstreet” before a mob of white rioters in 1921 destroyed 35 blocks of what was the wealthiest black community in the country. The plan seeks to add 1 million black homeowners, double the number of black-owned businesses, invest $70 billion in 100 communities across America and help to make sure the quality of a child’s education is not tied to their zip code.
